CaptainKirk | Comments: 0

Massive has announced a winner to the World in Conflict map making contest. You may recognize the winner, EvilViking, as he was also the maker of the user made map Virginia. After that performance, we can only expect good things. Take a look at the release from Massive:
After months of engaged map-making in the dedicated World in Conflict® community, the official World in Conflict Map Making Contest has finally come to an end. We received a large number of high quality entries and Massive Entertainment’s jury had a difficult time picking the final winners.

Having looked through their favourite maps thoroughly, the jury ultimately decided to give the awards to the maps “Arizona”, “Ozzault” and “Valley”. The Grand Prize for Best Map, which includes a cash prize of $1,000, the jury decided to give to EvilViking for his Domination map “Paradise”. All of the four winners will receive an NVIDIA 8800 series graphics card for their achievements and the winning maps are also set to be included in a future World in Conflict title.

No Hope Mod Released!

Idaeus | Comments: 8

The No Hope Mod has been released. The storyline is different but simple while the new TA's and Units are impressing and many!
No Hope: The Russians have found out that America's starwars program was bogus.
Russia has authorized the use of ICBMs. Will anyone survive?

Some of the new units
Heavy Squad- 1 Sniper, 4 AT troops, and 3
AA troops. Special ability- artillery
SADM Commando- This troop is deadly on his own. He's
armed with machine gun and a modified nade launcher that u can force fire onto
the ground. His best weapon is a small nuke charge that can be remote detonated.
T72 Tank- better
at dealing with other tanks than the T62 and has a fragmentation round for its
special ability that is good against infantry.
Challenger Tank- similar to the above unit,
but packs more of a punch to deal with the Russian Horde
Abrams Tank- split
into two variants, the M1, which is still a good heavy tank for its price and
the M1A1, which has an improved gun and sights, plus uses frag rounds for its
special ability.

Some of the new Tactical Aids
MIRV- launches multiple auto-taragetting nuke warheads.
This TA sets up a huge kill box, 1 km by 0.5km that targets only enemy units
within that area. To deploy it, use it like u would carpet bombing.
Precision Bombing-
B52 or Bear Bomber launches multiple homing cruise missiles.
Rain of Fire-
available only to the Americans; A dirty nuke detonates high in the atmosphere
and rains radioactive fallout over a large area.
Nuke Bomber- available only to the USSR.
Bear Bomber drops a small Nuke.
MOAB- available only to NATO (it really should be a US
TA, so I may swap this one with Rain of Fire later). 50% bigger than a Daisey
Cutter.
H-Bomb-
NATO-here's ur destroy everything on the map TA, huge mushroom cloud and
fireball. Bomb dropped out of c130.

New Soviet Assault Q&A

CaptainKirk | Comments: 0

A new Q&A about the upcoming expansion pack for World in Conflict, Soviet Assault, has been released by Massive. It addresses numerous questions that have been on all our minds. Here is an excerpt:
Will the 360 version have a map maker tool? (You don't want Halo Wars to be the first console RTS with a map maker, right?)
This is one of those things that would’ve been cool to include, but it would’ve required us to develop completely new tools. As always with game development, we’ve had to prioritise all the things we wanted to do, and the console map tools were unfortunately pushed down by other things.

Is Virginia going to be featured in the next WIC?
No, it’s reserved as a free PC multiplayer-only download.

Voice recognition is and will be one of the coolest things to play with and develop in near future... However, accents can be hard... Will SA recognize Bosnian accent? Can you please shout few SA orders in your reply? Will one of the orders include word NAAB?
We’re putting a lot of effort into making the voice recognition as accessible as possible, and that includes the recognition of different accents. “Naab”, “pwned” and “omg”, on the other hand, will trigger an instant self-destruction mechanism that eliminates all of your units and TA points. Also, TACTICAL NUKE and CARPET BOMB!

Will PC and console players be able to play together?
We looked at including a feature like this, at least so Xbox Live players could play against Windows Live PC players, but we realised that the different control schemes didn’t fit very well cross-platform. So, nope, there’s no cross-platform playing.
